Stacked Happiness ART ART Growing up in a small Midwestern factory town, I thought Norman Rockwell's single-image-stories were the height of artistic expression. I wanted to capture emotion and story like he once did...
I was never able to paint like Ol' Norm, but my early artistic pursuits taught me the fundamentals of composition, lighting, and color. More importantly, they laid the foundation for developing a lifelong purpose.
Stacked Happiness FILM FILM In college I traded my paintbrushes for cameras and VFX software. I eventually moved to Los Angeles and earned my Masters in Film Production from USC's School of Cinematic Arts. Shortly thereafter I began directing commercials for brands like Nike, Belkin and Jawbone. I created a few award-winning short films and directed a feature starring James Franco. Stacked Happiness VR VR Through a series of serendipitous events, I began working with the Institute for Creative Technology - a military funded wing of USC responsible for developing Virtual Reality (among other things). Enthralled by the power of this new medium, I decided to drop everything and start a VR company. The company was called Silvrscreen Productions and we were the first 3rd party company hired by Oculus Story Studio to create narrative content. During the production of our primary project with Oculus, we invented several VR production techniques never before used. Stacked Happiness STORY STORY I successfully exited SIlvrscreen after 4 years. Today I have multiple TV shows in development, and my Augmented Reality collaborations have been exhibited around the world. I recently started an Immersive Spaces company to give people an experience that combines the strengths of Film and VR.
My tools have changed dramatically since the paint and charcoal days, but my purpose of conveying emotion and insight through story remains. I have grand plans, but I cannot know with a certainty what my next workspace will look like. If you're interested in sharing one, please drop me a line.
